Global Program on Tobacco

CCP’s Global Program on Tobacco Control provides cross-cutting support to international and in-country partners in the areas of knowledge management, strategic planning, and capacity building to help stop the epidemic of tobacco use in middle and low-income countries.

A major part of CCP's work in Tobacco is funded by the Bloomberg Initiative (BI). Through this Initiative, CCP works in partnership with the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, World Health Organization, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, CDC Foundation, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and the World Lung Foundation. These organizations work together, along with in-country partners, to implement and coordinate activities to help stop the epidemic of tobacco use in middle and low-income countries where 80% of the world’s smokers live.

CCP has supported capacity building, technical assessments, and strategic/technical support to tobacco control partners and program interventions in several countries including Egypt, Jordan, Brazil, Turkey, China, India, Bangladesh, and the Philippines through the BI and other mechanisms.

Communication for Healthy Living (CHL), a seven-year project funded by USAID, aimed to enable Egyptian families and communities to protect and maintain their health. The project was led by CCP in partnership with the Egyptian Government. Through its affiliation with the global Health Communication Partnership (HCP), CHL provided communication support for healthy lifestyles and behavior change on a broad spectrum of health outcomes. More than 1.28 million people were reached by CHL outreach. CCP also worked with CHL to build capacity for health communication among the public, nongovernmental organization (NGO) and private sectors in Egypt.
