JHU/CCP Workshops...
Workshop Focus. Training Division workshops focus on health communication and advocacy, communication and advocacy for youth programs, leadership and management, and interpersonal communication and counseling. Languages. Training staff conduct workshops in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. The staff also conduct bi-lingual workshops in English/Russian. English/Chinese, and English/Vietnamese. Countries. Workshops are conducted in many countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Near East including Bangladesh, Bolivia, China, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, Turkey, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. On going Workshops. Three workshops are held annually in the US in a conference center near the JHU/CCP main office in Baltimore, Maryland. Through the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, the Division takes the lead in providing an on-line graduate course for credit. Advances in Health Communication & Advocacy. "Advances" is a four-week workshop conducted annually in the month of June. Participants explore the theory and practice of effective behavior change communication. Working in teams of three, participants develop a complete health communication and advocacy project with SCOPE, an easy-to-use computer program. Participants come from all parts of the world. Arabic Advances in Development Communication. "Arabic Advances" is an intensive two-week workshop which is usually held in Lebanon. Participants explore the elements of effective Development Communication programs with special attention to the development of strategic programs for Youth in the Middle East Region. Youth First! Strategic Communication and Advocacy for Health. Youth First! was a three - week workshop which was held September 10 - 28, 2001 in Baltimore. Participants explored the elements of effective behavior change communication and advocacy programs for youth. Working in teams of three, participants developed a complete program for Youth with SCOPE, an easy-to-use computer program. Participants came from many parts of the world. "Make a Difference": A Strategic and Multisectoral Approach to HIV/AIDS Communication. "Make a Difference" is a three-week workshop which explores the elements of effective behavior change communication and advocacy programs for HIV/AIDS. "Relevons

le défi du VIH et du SIDA is a three-week workshop which
will be held October 13 - 31, 2003 in Baltimore for French-speaking
persons. Participants will explore the elements of effective behavior
change communication and advocacy programs for HIV/AIDS. By the end
of this workshop, participants will be able to design innovative and
effective communication and advocacy strategies for HIV/AIDS, using
"SCOPE", an interactive software program. Training
of Trainers of NGOs in Advocacy and Governance. This 10 day Arabic
TOT workshop was held May 19 - 29, 2002 in Lebanon for Egyptian
NGOs. It provided participants with skills and tools for planning
training sessions, and implementing them using state-of-the-art in
interactive, learner-centered methodologies. Training evaluation and
training proposal writing were also emphasized. Strategic Leadership and Management for Reproductive Health. The Leadership Seminar (clicking here will open a new browser window) is held annually in July. The curriculum is designed for current leaders in reproductive health. The workshop is sponsored by the Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Participants enhance their leadership skills using STARGuide, an interactive software program. Health Communication Programs. An on-line graduate course given annually through the Distance Education (clicking here will open a new browser window) Program of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. The 2-part course runs from January through May. Students present their final health communication project on-line. 111
