of the 1st Meeting of the "Pakistan Development Communication
Network"
A
meeting of the Islamabad based participants of the 1st and 2nd
Pakistan Advances in Health Communication and Advocacy Workshops
was held on March 19, 2003 at Holliday Inn, Islamabad.
The
purpose of the meeting was to form an alumni organization. The
meeting agreed on the name "Pakistan Development Communication
Network ( PDCN)" and also developed a shared vision, and
objectives for the network besides electing the officer bearers.

Shared
Vision: (By the year 2010)
Empowering the people of Pakistan, through creative and
effective communication ,to fully understand their health
situation, practice healthy life styles and work together
for the implementation of people friendly health policies

Objectives:
( In next 3 years)
Establish
a forum of communication professionals to share ideals, learn
from each other and advocate for effective health communication
policies/ strategies.
Create a core
mass of communication specialists capable of designing effective
BCC programs and strategies
.
Advocate for
people friendly policies and legislation on health issues
Promote and
advocate for scientific heath communication research
Establish
a communication resource center for sharing and dissemination
of information of social and health issues
Build the capacity of households and communities to design, implement
and evaluate health communication programs

The meeting
also elected the following office bearers for the network. It
was decided that the officer bearers would work till the time
a national conference of all the Advances Alumni is organized:
