Report from the Field: by Olu Akinboyewa, Nigeria
Olu
Akinboyewa JP,
Deputy National
Secretary
Nigeria
Union of Journalists
National Secretariat, Area 11, Garki
P.O. Box 4350, Abuja FCT, Nigeria
My name is Olu
Akinboyewa, Deputy National Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalists,
National Secretariat, Area II, Garki, Abuja FCT, Nigeria.
I attended the 2001 (April) Nigeria Advances in Health Communication
Programmes, a course whose theme is thinking big, starting small,
Acting Now.
Ever since,
life in all its ramifications has never been the same again. I have
made this positive rule part and parcel of my private and public
life.
As a professional journalist, I have introduced this positive thinking
into general administrative duties in the NUJ administration.
The change introduced in this area has started manifesting hence
the difference. The union and Nigerian journalist have improved
in their duties and specialization.
For this and the fact that better days are here under my administration,
the unions leadership having noted my antecedents and the
magic employed in turning round the destiny of the union, has continued
to motivate me to greater heights by promoting me as a substantive
Deputy National Secretary from Assistant National Secretary on October
1, 2002 among others.
I thank the JHU/CCP for opening my eyes and enhancing the leadership
qualities in me. I will always work toward changing others.
