Russia: Pro Lyubov [About Love]The video About Love was written and produced in Moscow in 1998 by a local Russian production company. The 30-minute video tells the stories of three Moscow school girls who are making decisions about their sexuality, their partners, and their shared responsibility for preventing pregnancy. The story concerns Marina, Katya and Tanya, each of whom is in a serious relationship with a partner. When Marina thinks she might be pregnant--after having unprotected sex--she turns to her friends for advice about what to do. At their suggestion, Marina visits a clinic and talks with a counselor, which helps her make some decision about her relationship. From this experience, all three of these young women learn an important lesson about sex, trust and relationships. The video is accompanied by a comprehensive users' guide that is designed to help teachers and other adults lead group discussions about the video. The guide provides informationion about facitlitating small group discussions, sexuality in adolescence, and includes a glossary of reproductive health terms.
Over 500 copies of About Love were distributed to 9 different oblasts in Russia. The video has been broadcast on several regional television channels and shown to thousands of policymakers, parents, and young people throughout Russia. |
