Report on the "Leadership in Strategic Health Communication" workshop, 2008

The Center for Community Health Research and Development (CCRD) and the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health offered the first ever in Vietnam “Leadership in Strategic Health Communication Workshop” in Ha Long Bay from 15 September to 26 September, 2008.

The workshop is a Vietnam specific in-country version of the same workshop held annually at the Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, USA. The workshop explores the essential elements of successful communication in the context of reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and other development programs.

Designed for a selected group of program managers, this 12-day workshop provided, through review of the latest findings in health and social communication, an opportunity to enhance Behavior Change Communication (BCC) understanding, knowledge and skills. Participants explored the elements of effective health and social behavior change communication and advocacy programs to create more competent and health literate societies.

The workshop had proven critically important in making a positive change in the ability of professionals concerned with implementation, management and supervision of BCC activities to create and manage effective, results-oriented programs. Participants were introduced to innovative ways of developing, implementing and evaluating strategic BCC programs. The training was oriented to managerial levels and management of BCC programs.
