Overview
As a Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) partner to PEPFAR in Cote D’Ivoire, CCP builds capacity in the area of SBCC and provides technical support and tools for PEPFAR partners for HIV prevention. In Côte d’Ivoire, CCP’s programs aim to reduce the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in collaboration with a variety of partners including JHPIEGO, PSI, ANADER, The HIV/AIDS Alliance, Hope Worldwide, and CARE International.
Accomplishments
- Developed campaigns and activities to change or influence social and behavioral norms around four technical areas: abstinence and being faithful among youth, condoms and other prevention, support for anti-retrovirals (ARVs) and other policy and systems strengthening.
- Facilitated the development of a strategic communication framework for HIV treatment and care and support, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the National HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Program (PNPEC), HIV/AIDS Alliance, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), and other PEPFAR partners.
- Introduced the Sports for Life® program – an evidence-based intervention to inspire abstinence and fidelity (AB)-among youth through soccer. Launched a Sports for Life web site and organized advocacy meetings and trainings targeting private companies and key sport authorities.
- Collaborated with the Ministry for the Fight against AIDS (MLS), RIP+ (the national network of people living with HIV/AIDS [PLWHA] organizations), its affiliates, and key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to institutionalize a Côte d’Ivoire Testing Day that mobilizes communities to access HIV services.
- Developed new service promotion messages and materials (site directory and leaflets, posters promoting HIV/AIDS services) for key target audiences, including women of childbearing age, PLWHA, youth, and the general public. Conducted an informational campaign about the existence and advantages of counseling and testing (CT), prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), and anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment services. This promotional campaign aimed to create a positive attitude towards HIV Testing and increase uptake of CT, PMTCT, and ARV services.
- Developed an entertainment-education mini-film addressing the advantages of PMTCT and CT services, as well as the benefits of joining a support group for PLWHA.
- Collaborated with PEPFAR partners to develop a comprehensive interpersonal communication and counseling curriculum and use it to train trainers and 60 health service providers and community counselors.
