JHU∙CCP staff Rebecca Shore and Rupali Limaye presented on the power of social media to influence global health at the 12th annual Global Health Mini-University [1] held on September 14, 2012. Sponsored by USAID and the George Washington University Center for Global Health, Mini-University is an annual forum that brings together global health professionals to discuss evidence-based best practices and state-of-the-art information in technical areas ranging from HIV/AIDS to family planning to health systems.
Shore and Limaye’s presentation, titled “Global Health and Social Media: How do you “Like” that tweet?” [1], presented illustrative case studies on applications of social media in global health and discussed the challenges in designing, implementing and measuring the impact of social media on health behavior. The interactive session also explained the anatomy of a tweet, after which session attendees developed their own tweets to promote their global health work.
