New Virtual Network Links Thousands of Health Communication Professionals to New Research, Theories
BALTIMORE - More than 5,000 health communication practitioners from around the world are now linked through a virtual network developed for those who learned their strategic health communication skills at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs (CCP).
The CCP Training and Performance Improvement Division's health communication workshops focus on health communication and advocacy, communication and advocacy for youth programs, leadership and management, and interpersonal communication and counseling.
"We would like to continue supporting our alumni in their work through the network as well as learn from them," said Benjamin Lozare, PhD, CCP Associate Director and Chief of the Training Division. "They learn a lot of lessons from the field and we certainly benefit from their insights and experiences."
The most recent research findings, new communication theories, innovative materials, and helpful tools will appear on this network that has the capability to reach several hundred institutions and thousands of individuals. Listserves, bulletin boards, and websites will facilitate exchange and complement CCP's training and performance improvement activities.
Former workshop participants can share their own experiences and encourage more dialogue with developing countries through the electronic network.
Alumni network pages are now available for the Bangladesh Association for Social Communication, the Health Communication Network for Development in Nigeria, the Pakistan Development Communication Network, the Ethiopian Association of Health Communicators, and the Philippines Strategic Communication Alumni Association (PSCAA).
The site features a searchable alumni database and an Alumni Message board where alumni can write messages to each other and to the faculty of the workshops. A continuing education section offers a reference library with downloadable materials, a Learning Café with a link to the alumni message board, and a news section about alumni.
With representatives in more than 30 countries, CCP is a pioneer in the field of strategic, research-based communication for behavior change and health promotion that has helped transform the theory and practice of public health communications.
