Dame Tono / "Give me a Line":
Creating a Safe Space for Adolescent Reproductive Health Information in Peru

Project Dates: 1999-present

Overview

"You talk. We listen." This is what the new website "Give me a Line" promises adolescents. Designed in Peru for the Ministry of Health, "Give me a Line" provides a space for adolescents to create a virtual community, express themselves, learn about sexuality and reproductive health issues, but more importantly, have fun!

The community has seven areas:

  1. Sex sense - This space allows adolescents to develop a responsible and healthy sexuality by allowing them to talk about sex without feeling guilty or judged.

  2. Bad life - By reading and posting their real-life stories, adolescents can learn what their peers are going through and learn from their mistakes.

  3. High Voltage - The latest entertainment information.

  4. Clean game - Sports news and tips for training.

  5. Crush - Information on the latest teen idols.

  6. Body and Soul - Health and spirituality information.

  7. Jump in - The questions adolescents never dared to ask and the answers they never got.

In addition, the website also lets adolescents receive updates via e-mail.

"Give me a Line" will soon be available through the Ministry of Health's own server. JHU/PCS is also planning to regionalize the website in order to make it attractive to adolescents throughout the region.
