"Dale Tiempo al Tiempo" (Give Time a Chance)

Project Dates: 1997

Description

CD

Reaching youth through their channels of communication is the objective of the "Give Time a Chance" (Dale Tiempo al Tiempo) song and accompanying video clip in Nicaragua. The song was written by Carlos y Luis E Mejia Godoy, both well-known Nicaraguan song writers and performers. Alvaro Villagra and Lyra Barrioz with Grupo Macolla performed the song. All are very well known within Nicaragua, and Alvaro (with his Grupo Macolla) recently signed a contract with Sony Music. The song and video clip talk about love - how intense it is and how the first time is a special time - a time that should be thought out and decided together. The message was that youth is a time to enjoy and live intensely but not hastily.

Don't rush - give it time
And take your time
We will share together the decision

Don't rush - give it time
And take your time
Without cutting short the dreams of your heart

The song does not take an authoritarian approach and preach about not entering into sexual relations. It takes a more indirect approach and says that first love and the first time are extremely intense and wonderful, but couples need to take their time, decide together and respect their dreams. This approach provides a deeper message and one that provides options for the audience, not a cut and dry, "don't do it."
