"Men for Men" Tsa Banna Project
Activity Dates
2007 – ongoing
Activity Summary
The Mandela/HSRC research study showed that as a group men have consistently been disregarded in HIV/AIDS interventions. Based in Jericho in Northwest Province, Lighthouse Foundation’s Tsa Banna (“Men for Men”) project aims to address the social issues that put both men and women at risk of contracting HIV and AIDS, including transactional sex, gender based violence, casual sex and multiple sexual relationships, especially amongst the male population.
The project builds skills in the areas of delayed sexual activity until marriage, sustaining marital fidelity and faithfulness, enjoying sex in an exclusive relationship, respect for women and sexual violence, and the dangers of multiple sex partnerships.
Tsa Banna is implemented in five rural/semi rural communities (Makgabetlwane; Dinaletsane - Rooiwal and Legonyane – Elandsfontein; Teshefoge - Valboschsloot and Mmupuding (Waterval); Fafung – Bultfontein; and Jericho) as this province in particular, and rural areas in general, are particularly under serviced in terms of HIV/AIDS services.
