Strengthening Health Communication Capacity in the MOH

Activity Dates

July 2003 - June 2004

Activity Summary

HCP worked in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health and the MOH to articulate a vision based on the concept of “household producers of health”. This vision was disseminated within the health system through public health leadership and strategic planning training events. Training was reinforced with on-the-job technical assistance to health managers, service providers, and community leaders. HCP worked closely with the MOH to adopt and institutionalize a five-year Communication and Community Action strategy that cuts across multiple SOs. The strategy integrates mass media, community mobilization, performance improvement, and research and evaluation.
