Fostering the Alliance for Health through an Intersectoral Approach
Activity Dates
July 2003 - June 2004
Activity Summary
HCP worked in coordination with the Technical Advisory Secretariat to the Social Ministries (SECEP) to start building a common vision between the social ministries regarding Health as a shared responsibility. The Ministries of Health and Education were the first involved. Other Ministries, as well as donors and the private sector followed. The catalysts for synergy were the “Alliance for Health,” which focused on adolescent and child health; quality of care in health care units; access to medications and their correct use; and education on prevention regarding seven priority health problems. A series of workshops brought representatives from the different sectors together, under the leadership of the Ministry of Health. HCP provided technical assistance for the design and implementation of the workshops as well as for the design, pretest, and reproduction of communication and educational materials that served the program objectives.
Though a series of capacity building workshops, HCP also assisted NicaSalud and the National AIN-C communication subcommittee, made up of six organizations, in developing a communication strategy to promote IMCI/child survival behaviors. The campaign included a series of radio spots as well as print materials and a set of cue cards for health promoters. The campaign was launched in June 2004.
