An Unforgettable Moment
I am Kitaboon Nisha, a Muslim woman aged 24 and I have two sons and one daughter. In November 2005, some new faces came into our village to start PLA/RLG classes. After I heard, I told my husband I was interested and asked if I could go. My husband is a rickshaw puller and he told me if the other women from our VDC went, then I could join the class.
The birth spacing between my children is not more than 17 months. I was thinking of having no more children because I have lot of everyday responsibilities while my husband is out of the house for his job. I wanted to learn how I could avoid pregnancy. Sometimes I talked about this with my husband, but every time he was angry with me, saying that this was against our religion and that he didn't want to talk to me about this type of issue.
But the day came. I joined and regularly participated in the PLA/RLG class. In those classes, I learned lot of things regarding our family health, especially about family planning. I was so happy when I heard the same family planning messages through the radio drama serial "Gyanay Shakti Hoy" ("Knowledge is Power"). I again requested my husband to adopt a family planning method from the nearest health facility center but again he refused my request. One day my husband came home a little early from his work and he listened to the radio drama serial in our language.
That day my husband realized that this program is very important for us and after that, my husband loved to listen to the radio program. After few weeks he asked our facilitator about the radio program and message delivered through drama serial. After that he told me that we could visit a health facility center and we went there. After the counseling service provided by the health worker, we decided to use Depo Provera for six months and in winter we have decided to take permanent family planning service from the district hospital.
"Now I am so happy with my family and can't forget the radio drama serial which brought my happiness."
