Maximizing Access and Quality (MAQ)
HCP partner organizations have been involved in the Maximizing Access and Quality (MAQ) Initiative from its inception. The overall objective of the MAQ Initiative is to improve the access to quality RH services. Staff members have been instrumental in ensuring that the role of communication in improving access and quality is recognized in the broader USAID-OPRH community. Among other activities, HCP staff participated in the design, implementation, and facilitation of the MAQ Exchange held in Mali in 2003, co-authored a peer-reviewed journal article on performance improvement, and contributed to the redesign of the MAQWEB, www.maqweb.org
HCP has also co-chaired three committees based at USAID with participants from USAID and many Cooperating Agencies: Policy, Advocacy, Communication and Education (PACE), Community-Defined Quality (CDQ) and Client-Provider Interaction (CPI). In this capacity, HCP ensured linkages between the MAQ Initiative and other complementary global initiatives implemented by such bodies as the Performance Improvement Consultative Group and the IBP Consortium. HCP also contributed to MAQ Exchanges by updating curricula or facilitating MAQ Exchanges.
In 2005, HCP conducted a videoconferenced plenary on the topic of Client Provider Interaction. The plenary included four sites--Baltimore, Geneva, Nairobi, and Kampala--combined with onsite in-person discussion. The meeting was designed to encourage collaboration among health professionals in improving client-provider interactions as it relates to clients’ FP/RH needs in HIV/AIDS service setting through knowledge sharing and an informal support network. IBP Consortium, Engenderhealth/ACQUIRE, PopCouncil/Horizons and FHI collaborated in the organization of the event.
