Project Overview

The Healthy Russia 2020 Project (HR2020) was awarded in 2020 by USAID to the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) to carry out a broad-based program of health education, communication and mobilization in the areas of healthy lifestyles, HIV/AIDS, and family planning/reproductive health.  The legacy of the project will be in the establishment of the Healthy Russia Foundation which will continue the work of the project as well as address other key health risk behaviors.

The Healthy Russia program focuses in three areas of program intervention linked to service delivery:

  1. HIV/AIDS - a focus on young people in most vulnerable areas who are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and sexual transmitted infections;
  2. family planning/reproductive health with a focus on young couples and involving men in FP/RH; and
  3. building a sustainable HRF with particular program emphasis on addressing other key health risk behaviors, especially regarding the lifestyles of young people, most of which are linked to their vulnerability to HIV and other health risks.

Project Objectives

The overall objectives are to:

  • Increase political commitment and local capacity for supportive policies, legislation and resources for the implementation of the MCH/RH; HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, care, treatment and support programs;
  • Raise awareness, knowledge, understanding, and skills among young people and to prevent HIV/AIDS and STI infection, related health risks and unhealthy lifestyle behavior;
  • Reduce HIV infection and increase access to VCT, prevention counseling and ART services among injecting drug users (IDUs);
