Healthy Indonesia 2010
Objectives
- To provide the skills, leadership and support necessary to facilitate a smooth and effective transition into a decentralized health care system.
- To promote preventative delivery services at every level in the health system. JHU/PCS, is working with the MOH, NGO's, and private sector groups to develop, monitor, and implement Healthy Indonesia 2010.
The formation of the Coalition for HI 2010, was the first step in the initiative. The Coalition currently consists of 60 regular members representing 2 districts and 7 provinces and continues to grow. Members include national organizations, local coalitions, government agencies, private organizations and friends of the coalition, including USAID and DEPKES (MOH).
The three main components of HI 2010 include advocacy, health promotion/demand generation, and community participation. Subcomponents are membership development, public/private partnerships and local capacity building for sustainability.
Components of HI 2010
- ADVOCACY TO SUPPORT DECENTRALIZATION
Objectives of HI2010 advocacy efforts are: a) to make health, in particular, preventative health, a priority among decision makers, b) to increase budget allocation for health, in particular, preventative care at the national and district levels, and c) to support bills that promote preventative care. The Coalition has been invited to public hearings and high level seminars. The Coalition participates in government dialogues/meetings on current and new legislation to support improved developments in decentralization. Photo Link
- HEALTH PROMOTION/DEMAND GENERATION
HI 2010 works with private and government sector partners to improve healthy behaviors among individuals, families, and communities, and to ensure that they take responsibility for their own health. Quarterly health campaigns on topics such as malaria, nutrition and smoking cessation are developed and implemented with coalition member support.

- CREATE HEALTHY FAMILIES THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
The Healthy Family Program is a village-based certification program whereby local stakeholders agree on a limited number of priority health issues, develop standards for those selected issues, and then publically recognize and reward families that achieve and maintain those standards. These families act as models for other families to adopt new health behaviors.
