Maternal Mortality and Violence against Women

The National Communication Campaign for Reduction of Maternal Mortality and Violence Against Women was launched on "Safe Motherhood Day," May 28, 2000, the theme was "Know the Danger Signs - Ensure Safe Motherhood". To increase awareness of maternal mortality especially related to Emergency Obstetric Care (EOC), an extensive communication and social mobilization program is being carried out at both the national and local levels. This includes training/orientation of field staff and program managers, production and distribution of IEC print materials bearing the new EOC logo, TV and radio spots, and print ads. Entertainment education serial drama, Eyi Megh Eyi Roudra (Now Cloud, Now Sunshine) is under production.

Community-level Activities

Future Search Conferences are held at the community level - Stakeholders gather to brainstorm the current maternal health situation. They visualize the ideal situation and together create and implement action plans to improve the situation.

TV Drama

TV Drama: Eyi Megh Eyi Roudra (Now Cloud, Now Sunshine)

This 26 episode drama centers on the lives of both urban and rural Bangladeshi's - their worldview, their hopes and their sorrows. And within the story promotes good health practices and using clinics marked with the Smiling Sun. At the same time, it encourages people to visit the existing Green Umbrella clinics (see Green Umbrella page).

The drama contains candid discussions on breatsfeeding, diarrhea, ARI, hygiene andmaternal and child health.

Every episode is followed by a quiz show with prizes - BCCP has received 180,000 letters so far in response to the quiz show, alone!
