Photoshare's New Shopping Cart Feature
The Media/Materials Clearinghouse has added a new shopping cart feature to the Photoshare Web site. With the shopping cart, it is now even easier to order photos for print, presentation, and Web materials. The cart allows users to make a preliminary selection of photographs, which can be viewed and edited for at least 7 days before submitting a final order. As always, photographs are available free of charge for nonprofit, educational use.

New Design for Mediabank Gallery
The Media/Materials Clearinghouse's Mediabank Gallery has a new look. The new gallery includes sample materials from Mediabank grouped by subject as well as links to searches of the Mediabank database. The gallery also includes a special section featuring logos, information, and links to sample project materials. Each month, the "New Materials" feature of the Gallery is updated to include a sampling of materials added to Mediabank during that month.

International Family Planning Perspectives on CD-ROM
A new CD-ROM provides easy access to 10 years (1990 to present) of the journal International Family Planning Perspectives. Users can now access more than 700 peer-reviewed and searchable articles, digests, and updates on sexual and reproductive health. Produced by the Population Information Program and The Alan Guttmacher Institute, the CD-ROM is free and may be ordered online.

Children's Game Educates on Indonesia Coral Reef Conservation
In a bold bid to raise awareness of Indonesia's rich resources, the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program (COREMAP) has launched an educational game to inform children about the preservation of coral reefs. "The game will be distributed to elementary schools located in several coastal areas in four provinces where part of their coral reefs have been damaged," said Douglas Storey, COREMAP Public Communication team leader from Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs.

March to the Taj Mahal: A Symbol of Hope for Mothers Everywhere
JHU/PCS-India is involved in the "White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood," which coordinated a march to the Taj Mahal in India on April 7th, World Health Day. The event was a live webcast on April 10 and is available for viewing here.

More Equals Less: New Study Shows Increased Media Exposure Leads to Reduced Sexual Activity Among Youth in Zimbabwe
The more exposure young people have to messages encouraging self-control and self-respect, the less likely they are to engage in risky sexual behavior, according to a new study of Zimbabwe youth published by researchers from JHU/CCP. "The research shows that multi-media campaigns can increase the reach and impact of messages designed to encourage young people to use contraception, discuss reproductive health, and to say no to sex," said Young Mi Kim, senior research and evaluation advisor at JHU/CCP. The Media/Materials Clearinghouse has established a network of professionals specializing in all aspects of health communication materials development and dissemination. The Health Communication Materials Network enables health communication specialists around the world to share ideas, information, and samples of materials with their colleagues. Membership is free; and any individual or organization involved in the field of health communication materials development is invited to apply.

Promoting Sexual Responsibility Among Young People in Zimbabwe
A multimedia information campaign, including traditional elements and special events such as musical and dramatic performances, increases the reach and impact of reproductive health interventions directed at young people, suggests a recent study. In addition, building community support for behavior change is essential to ensure that young people find approval for their actions and have access to reproductive health services. The study, co-authored by JHU/CCP researchers, is available in the March issue of International Family Planning Perspectives.

Population and the Environment: The Global Challenge
As the century begins, natural resources are under increasing pressure, threatening public health and development. Water shortages, soil exhaustion, loss of forests, air and water pollution, and degradation of coastlines afflict many areas. As the world's population grows, improving living standards without destroying the environment is a global challenge.

RHGateway Selected for Current Web Contents
The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) has selected Reproductive Health Gateway for inclusion in its new online publication, Current Web Contents. Current Web Contents will be a collection of evaluated scholarly Web sites and will be accessed through Current Contents Connect ( CC Connect), which is a Web-based current awareness tool providing access to bibliographic information from scholarly journals and books. RHGateway is managed by JHU/CCP for the USAID Population and Health Materials Working Group.

Photoshare Adds New Items
Photoshare has added more than 150 photographs from the Near East, Africa, and Asia to its vast collection of images. New links include the EuroNGOs Photo Database and the Public Health Image Library.

Harnessing IT for World Health Improvement
On January 9-10, 2001, the USAID Population and Health Materials Working Group hosted its third conference on using IT to improve health worldwide. The conference, held at the JHU School for Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C., drew more than 200 participants representing 60 organizations working in international health. In plenaries and smaller breakout sessions, conference participants explored the issues and challenges of using new technologies for information sharing, advocacy, and training. Conference photos and selected presentations are available online.

Break the Silence: Rwandans Speak Out About AIDS
Week-long radio and television programming in Rwanda aims to raise awareness of and offer solutions to HIV/AIDS epidemic. On the final day of the campaign, February 3, more than 400 people are expected to participate in the first nationally broadcast town meeting ever held in Rwanda.

First-time Publication: Population Reports on CD-ROM
For the first time ever, the quarterly journal Population Reports will be distributing a multimedia version on CD-ROM in addition to the print version. All the content of the new issue, "Population and the Environment: The Global Challenge," plus interactive enhancements that provide additional depth and detail will be available on the disk. Orders are being accepted now for 1st quarter 2001 distribution.
