Clinic Program: Improving the Services of Midwives
Activity dates: 1999 - present
Themes: Gender & Sexuality, Capacity Building, Community Mobilization, Family Planning and Maternal Health
Overview
As a separate part of the clinic program, the Maternity Counseling Kit is being developed to enhance the service providers' ability to tailor a counseling session to the needs of the client using a holistic and integrated approach.
Objectives
- To get new information out to midwives and all those who work in facilities providing antenatal care (ANC), delivery, and postnatal care (PNC) services. New information includes new guidelines and curriculum development.
- To provide guidelines on IPT (intermittent presumptive treatment) for malaria.
- To assist in promoting good counseling behavior.
- To provide information on early recognition and referral for danger signs for midwives, clients, and clients' families.
- To address quality of care issues.
- To introduce the concepts of birth preparedness and the birth plan.
Activities
In partnership with MNH, ZIHPCOMM conducted a design workshop in June 2001 to design an innovative, radio distance learning program aimed at improving facility deliveries.
