VOICES for a Malaria-Free Future

Project Overview

Headed by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (CCP), a new group of advocates is leading an urgent global call to action for a malaria-free future for families living in the developing world. With partners The CORE Group, Malaria Consortium, and Fleishman-Hillard, the VOICES for Malaria-Free Future project is designed to encourage global decision-makers to boost and sustain malaria-specific funding and make sure that funding is used effectively.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, VOICES was launched in June 2006 and is expected to end in May 2009.

Objectives/Strategies

VOICES’ vision is a malaria-free future through a coordinated global advocacy effort that promotes proven control strategies and increased research and development.

To achieve this vision, VOICES uses the following strategies:

  1. Strengthen existing partners and develop new voices
  2. Increase visibility of malaria and potential for a malaria-free future
  3. Educate policymakers and donors

Activities and Highlights

VOICES is currently setting up field offices in Ghana and Mali, and has conducted a Fresh Air meeting in Kenya run by its partner KENAAM (Kenya NGO’s Alliance Against Malaria). Mozambique, Kenya, Mali and Ghana are all developing country advocacy strategies and will meet in November to share them.
