PATHS – Partnership for Transforming Health Systems
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Partnership for Transforming Health Systems Programme (PATHS), a seven-year DFID-funded Programme, aims to address some of the issues that have given rise to the declining health situation at Federal level and in DFID's four focal states - Jigawa, Benue, Ekiti and Enugu. PATHS will work with stakeholders and support their initiatives to provide basic health systems that will be functional, effective and accessible, particularly to the poor and other vulnerable groups. The Programme has four key outputs:
- Strengthened government stewardship in health policy, legal framework, and financing for health services;
- Improved management, especially in systems in the public sector particularly at the LGA level;
- Better quality preventive and curative services established for priority health conditions;
- Increased consumer understanding of their entitlement to good quality, affordable health care and better able to prevent and manage priority health conditions.
The program areas include: malaria; childhood illnesses; TB and HIV/AIDS; reproductive health; and safe motherhood.
CCP’s role on PATHS is to provide the program with technical expertise in communication. More specifically, CCP designs the appropriate communication strategies, communication training and support, and the implementation of communication methodologies.
ACTIVITIES AND HIGHLIGHTS
In communication, we are developing an overall communication strategy with an umbrella theme along the lines of Better Health Begins at Home. This strategy utilizes a triple approach: advocacy for getting better health on the state, local and federal level political agendas; improving performance of providers through skills and information; and consumer demand creation, from the perspective of health begins at home. Other communication activities include: launching of a television program; radio diaries on HIV/AIDS; media assessments; newsletters for state ministries of health; DOTS BCC strategy; and capacity building for leaders.
