Jose G. Rimon II, senior deputy director of the Center for Communication Programs, was selected to receive the 2004 Outstanding Professional Award in the field of communication given by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association. The award recognizes UP graduates who have excelled in their respective fields and have attained national and international recognition.

PADIS is sponsored by Toulouse Lautrec Visual Arts Institute in Peru which organizes every year the most important and only competition in the country related to Multimedia, Architecture, Graphic Design and Creativity.
LA Youth Portal was rated one of the best web sites worldwide by No Limit Media. No Limit Media is a renowned US based organization which evaluates Internet projects.
LA Youth Portal received a Golden Web Award. The Award is sponsored by the International Association of Web Masters and Designers and is presented to sites whose "web design, originality and content have achieved levels of excellence deserving of recognition." The portal is now eligible to feature the Golden Award logo on its home page.

The ISHI Tanzania ("live" in Kiswahili)-Youth HIV/AIDS campaign won a United Nations Award that recognizes campaigns exemplifying the goals and ideals of the United Nations.
ISHI also received the 2002 International Public Relations Golden World Awards for Excellence which recognizes creative and innovative campaigns.
The "Better Health Campaign" in Zambia was selected as a Global Media Award winner in the category of "Best Combined Media Effort on Population Issues". This ZIHPCOMM-supported campaign has extraordinary support from the Central Board of Health.
Jakarta Post Bureau Chief, Rita Widiadana was nominated by JHU/CCP for a Global Media Award for her commitment to the field of population through her articles and participation in a variety of organizations that focus on improving the health of Indonesian women. She was selected as the winner of the Global Media Award in the category Best Individual Reporting Effort.
Poster on "Adolescent Premarital Sexual Behavior in Nicaragua: Explaining the Gender Differences" won a Blue Ribbon Award from the Population Association of America.
The Sekarang (Save the Coral Reefs – NOW) Campaign in Indonesia and the "Arab Women Speak Out" projects received the 2002 Golden Quill Award, both in the category of "economic, social and environmental development/third-world development."

In December, Population Reports received the 2001 Global Media Award for the best population journal.
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) awarded its top international prize to Arcandina (The Andean Ark), a children's television show in Ecuador that was developed with assistance from JHU/CCP to encourage children and adolescents to become more environmentally responsible. Specifically, Arcandina was named Best International Environmental Program of 2001.
In February, ZIHPCOMM BCC Specialist, Regina Lungu was awarded Personality of the Year 2000-2001 at the MNET Grammy Awards. This radio personality in Zambia won this prize for her weekly show called "Tell Me, Josephine" where she fields call-in questions and letters on issues about sex, relationships, and family-related issues.

The Philippines' "Sentrong Sigla Movement" (Center of Vitality) received the 2000 Global Media Award, Country Award. "Sentrong Sigla Movement" is implemented by the Department of Health in partnership with the local government units (LGUs). It aims to promote the availability of quality health services in health facilities nationwide and to make these services more accessible to all Filipinos. Its main component is the certification and recognition program that develops and promotes standards for government health facilities, to which Johns Hopkins University/Population Communication Services (JHU/PCS) provides technical assistance.
In October 2000, the Baltimore-based Red Ribbon Question Mark Campaign won first place in the "Information Campaign" category of the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) competition for "Excellence in Public Health Communication". The Gold Award was presented at the annual meeting of NPHIC in Denver, Colorado. The competition was open to public health departments from the 50 US states. JHU/CCP designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated this award winning campaign in collaboration with the Maryland AIDS Administration, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
In March 2000, the logo design for the Baltimore Red Question Mark (HIV Testing) Campaign created by JHU/CCP for the Maryland AIDS Administration won the "Best in Baltimore" ADDY Award Competition.

In 1999, JHU/CCP received an award from Princess Basma on behalf of the National Population Commission for our excellent achievement in the Men's Participation Campaign.
The UNFPA-funded "Suami Siaga" Maternal Mortality Reduction Campaign in Indonesia won Honorable Mention in the Best Healthcare category of the Asian PR Awards.
The November 1998 family planning issue of the Uganda "Health Matters" won the 1999 Global Media Award for "Best Team Reporting Effort".
In November 1999, the USAID Office of Population presented Hugh Rigby with a "Superior Performance Award" for the work he and the rest of the M/MC staff have done helping the Office of Population with media and materials in a variety of ways.
JHU/CCP as part of the DISH project received the 1999 Finalist Globals International Healthcare Communications Award for the "Uganda HIV Counseling and Testing Campaign" in the category Social Commitment: Consumer Education/Public Service.JHU/CCP also received the 1999 Finalist Globals International Healthcare Communications Award for the Moroccan video Bent Ettajer (Merchant's Daughter) in the category of Consumer: Film/Video. The New York Festivals runs the Globals International Healthcare Communications awards.

In 1998, JHU/CCP received two awards from Princess Basma on behalf of the National Population Commission, one for JHU/CCP and one for Dr. Alfred Yassa for outstanding contribution to the Jordanian population program.
CHOICES, a 45-minute weekly radio program in Uganda addressing issues of family planning and reproductive health, won the 1998 Population Institute's Global Media Award for Excellence in Population Reporting. The program uses a variety of formats: drama, interviews, music and health information to provide an informative, accurate, and entertaining program to a national audience.
Two TV mini-series, Time for Love and Moon Skin, shared the first prize in the 4th Latin American Festival of Video Directed by Women in Bogota, Colombia. Moon Skin was co-produced in Bolivia, by JHU/CCP, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF/OHR), Secretary of Gender Affairs of Bolivia, and the Center for Research, Education and Services (CIES). Time for Love was co-produced in Peru by JHU/CCP and the commercial video production house "Iguana".
The five 1998 Chris Awards included Honorable Mention to "RH is in Your Hands Campaign" (Bolivia); Bronze Plaque to "Planning is a Matter of Caring" Mass Media Campaign (Mexico); Honorable Mention to "Speaking with Confidence" Training Video (Latin America); Honorable Mention to "Together We Decide When" TV spot (Nicaragua).

In Indonesia, The Guiding Light Radio Spot, co-produced by JHU/PCS/PIP and BKKBN, won the Joey Award Trophy for entertainment program from the San Jose Film and Video Commission, as part of the 15th Annual Joey Awards.
The Filipino feature film, Mumbaki, won awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Story, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, and Best Production Design from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS).
Arab Women Speak Out introductory video was shown at the Annual Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Conference and Filmfest, the professional organization of primarily educators. The Filmfest is in its 14th year, with more than 4000 Middle East specialists viewing the films
Trendsetters newsletter is a winner in the Population Institute's XVIIIth Annual Global Media Award in the category of Excellence in Population Reporting, co- produced by JHU/PCS/PIP and the Youth Media Group in Zambia.
Honorable mention was given to the "Women's Campaign", a service promotion campaign developed by Ecuadorian NGO APROFE, with technical assistance from JHU/CCP at the IPPF/Western Hemisphere Region's Rosa Cisneros Award Ceremony

Dr. Kapadia-Kundu, a native of India, was a William H. Draper, Jr. Fellow in health communication. She returned to Maharashtra, India, following graduation to work in community health and women's empowerment.
American Medical Writers Association, Eric W. Martin Memorial Award, for "Controlling Sexually Transmitted Diseases," Population Reports, Series L, No. 9. Robert E. Lande authored the report and Laurie Liskin prepared the accompanying wall chart. This annual award honors a publication dealing with an issue important to the pharmaceutical industry.

International Communications Industries Association (ICIA) Achievement Award for Producer of the Year for It's Not Easy, an African dramatic feature film about AIDS. Five organizations collaborated to produce the film: the AIDSCOM project of the Academy for Educational Development (AED), the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP); the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE); the Experiment in International Living (EIL); and Uganda Television (UTV). John Riber, an American producer living in Zimbabwe, wrote the script and produced the film in conjunction with director Faustin Misanvu of UTV. The award cites JHU/CCP for its "continued support of social issues and its collaboration in education, family planning, health, and AIDS awareness education."
Five awards for Berdel, a film produced by the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation (TFHPF), which receives support and technical assistance from JHU/CCP. Film was stimulated but not funded by JHU/CCP.
